Souvenir, a 24-page comic by Eldrax (aka me)

I completed my final project for Ebony Flowers' class at OISE, Making Comics for Research, and I'm pleased with how it turned out! Because so much of our writing and work in the class was autobiographical, I decided to call my book Souvenir, and to focus on the theme of memory. Several of the pages are autobiographical stories from me, or people around me. Several of the pages use sociocultural theories of learning to talk about how memory works. And many of the pages contain hand-drawn copies of photos of my family and friends. I think the oldest photo is probably the one I reproduced for the cover - me, in 1976 or so, with our cat Burt.

Cover for my comic, Souvenir. The drawing on the front is a reproduction of an old photo of me as a baby, with my cat, Burt.

Another favorite is the inside back cover, a portrait that my sisters and I gave to our parents as a gift. I think it was taken sometime between 1994 and 1997.

Watercolor pencil drawing/painting of me and my sisters, from a photo that was probably taken sometime between 1994 and 1997.

If you're interested in downloading the whole thing, here it is! You might be curious about why the author is listed as 'Eldrax.' In Ebony's class, we all had to pick pseudonyms to use while in class and on all our assignments. I wanted to be a dragon, so I picked the name of the dragon from Robert Munsch's book 'The Paper Bag Princess.'
